| I joined Dixon Wilson having spent five years working in financial services post-university. Most recently I was employed by a start-up life insurance company working closely with a number of ACA qualified accountants. The professional competence and expertise of my colleagues convinced me of the necessity of accountancy training to anyone wishing to pursue a career in financial services. In particular I was impressed by the breadth of knowledge and expertise that accountants are required to have at their disposal in order to deal with a wide range of business situations. Dixon Wilson stood out in comparison to firms of a similar size and also the ‘Big Four’ due to the far broader more rounded student experience on offer, the friendly collegiate atmosphere and the disproportionately high percentage of top quality professional staff. I was put off by the larger firms’ requirement for students to specify which area of practice they wanted to work in from the application stage onwards. Having never worked for an accountancy firm before I had no idea which area of practice I preferred and did not want to be prevented from applying the full range of skills that are taught during the three years of ACA training. The reality of life at Dixon Wilson has confirmed and reinforced my preconceptions. The balance between office and college work gives the whole experience added variety and the mixture is well weighted in order to keep both aspects of the training contract interesting and fresh. Working for a firm with such knowledgeable partners and employees is a real privilege and the fact that the firm is small means I can appreciate all of these attributes first hand. |
